Soapstone Prairie Natural Area & Red Mountain Open Space

A mix of dirt, pavement, gravel, and singletrack, this route is a local favorite. Climbing up the Red Mountain side, as this map suggests, is a bit faster and more fun. This way you can enjoy the flowy singletrack in Soapstone Prairie, usually with a tailwind. The quick return from these natural areas, combined with deceptively flat-looking plains, may make this seem like a flat ride. However, Buckey is actually 1,500 feet above Fort Collins. This particular route has a spur to Livermore store and Park Creek Reservoir. If you choose to cut that out it will save you about eight miles.
