In this week's community connections we got to see what makes Remington Flats such a special and unique place to stay in Old Town Fort Collins. 

What makes Remington Flats unique?

We feel Remington Flats is Fort Collins most unique vacation destination (for real) for good reason! Our studio Apartments are uber chic’, with each flat having its own design and style. Our location is truthfully the best in town being located directly across the street from campus and only four blocks from Old Town Square. We have nine complimentary New Belgium Cruiser bikes for our guest to use, local beers and treats upon check-in, and an amazing back patio to hang out and enjoy the evening. We feel like we offer more than a typical vacation rental in that we have the full-service aspect of a hotel such as concierge check-in and services, such as booking restaurant reservations, booking excursions, even pre-shop for supplies for our guests prior to arrival while at the same time giving our guests the privacy to feel like they have the place to themselves. It really is the best of both worlds. Our social media pages are full of real reviews from guests who say over and over again that staying with us makes them feel like home but with lots of extras!

What do you want visitors to experience at Remington Flats? 

Our mission is that visitors can experience the city like a local while enjoying the benefits of staying at a posh hotel. Our guest reviews suggest we are accomplishing our mission!

What do you love about Fort Collins? 

Being natives, what we love most about Fort Collins is watching it grow and become one of the most desirable places in the state and country to live and visit. We love the Old Town neighborhood where we live and where Remington Flats is located. We experience so much joy interacting with prospective Colorado State University students and their families who are often coming here for the first time to the graduation gatherings we host at the flats. 

What are some of your favorite things to do in Fort Collins?

Our favorite things to do is people watch from our front porch or in the downtown area. Fort Collins has such a unique and diverse population that we really enjoy interacting with new people, who are always friendly. We love going to happy hour at our favorite places, Nick’s, Jax Fish House, La Luz, and many others. Of course we also love cruising around town on our New Belgium Cruisers. Lastly, summer in Fort Collins is always a magical time where we love gathering with friends, getting outdoors to bike, hike and golf.

What is the story behind how Remington Flats came to be? 

We started getting into the vacation rental business about four years ago in our basement apartment. It was such a successful endeavor for us; in the process of operating The Fort Apartment, we discovered we really have a passion for the hospitality business. Having traveled extensively around the world ourselves, we were able to take the best practices from our stays in 5 star hotels and apply to our vacation rental; so we started looking for a property to purchase where we could “supersize” our little vacation rental. Luckily, we were able to find and purchase Remington Flats from Mark Johnson who we knew had the same high standards we had in our business. We’ve made some small improvements but Mark and his business partner Kristal Williams did such an amazing job there has been little to change. 

Tell us about yourselves...

Doug and Ann have both been small business owners throughout their careers. Ann is a native of Boulder and Doug, a native of Fort Collins. They met and married some 20 years ago and live in the home that was originally owned by Doug’s grandmother in 1922. Doug owned and operated Cross Concrete for over 20 years before retiring in 2012 and Ann has primarily been a consultant in many different industries throughout her life. Ann is also the author of “Passport to Career Success” and “The Soft-Skills Solution Series” which are used in schools, universities, and workforce centers around the world.

Anything else you wanted to add… 

Remington Flats is not your typical vacation rental or a hotel. We are in a lane of our own, marrying the best of both worlds. Because we are a micro-hotel, our rooms are limited and we have a high rate of repeat guests who book months in advance, so plan ahead and book early.
